From 22 August to 2 September, 2018, Requena celebrates its ‘Feria y Fiesta de la Vendimia’ (Grape Harvest Fair and Festival), declared of Tourist Interest in 1966 and one of the oldest and most important of its type in Spain.

This year is the LXXI edition of this festival, with grapes and wine as its main protagonists.

This festival has a packed agenda of events ranging from parades, ‘mascletás’ and fireworks to acts of homage to the wine-making tradition of this town such as grape treading, sports activities, the popular ‘noche de la zurra’, medieval market or concerts every night.

Also, from 22 to 25 August the FeReVin (Requena wine fair) is on. Again one of a kind in the region and one of the most important of the Costa Blanca; a fantastic showcase of wines, cavas and wine cellars from the Utiel – Requena region. Giving you the opportunity to taste the areas most known wines. If you’re a wine lover, you can’t miss it.

Literally translated as ‘Quality Artisan Sausage Fair’, this event exhibits how rich and varied Valencian gastronomy is. It takes place from 8 to 10 February at the Valencian town Requena’s fairground area.

The protagonists of the fair, true to its name, are a whole variety of ’embutidos’ or Spanish sausages such as morcilla, güeña, longaniza, chorizo or orza. However, visitors will also find other typical local products such as the ‘bollo requenense’ (a sweet roll), olive oil and D.O (guarantee of origen) Utiel-Requena cava and wine.

To sample produce visitors may buy tickets at affordable prices. The fair is complemented by a wide range of activities, including tastings, a craft market, dances, music, contests, exhibitions, guided tours, shows and workshops for children.

‘Sona la Dipu’ (pop-rock contest) promoting emerging talents from the Costa Blanca along with famous national groups.

Several Valencian groups have been selected to compete for an amazing grand prize: to record their own album and tour nationally and internationally. The bands are: Fire Friend, Kill The President!, L´Home Brut, Linqae, The Invaders, Mr. Perfume, NUC, North periphery, The Seafood Special, Tin Robots, Twise and Yo Diablo.

These twelve groups represent a wide range of genres from rock to hip hop, hardcore, indie, folk, signature music and electronic and alternative rock.

The Diputación de Valencia promotes this contest, which will take place in various Valencian towns and has placed its bet not only on music but also on equality by promoting female participation and setting up a jury made up mainly by women.

As a novelty, each contest day special invited guest bands/singers will open and or close each session.

Programme

The first semi-final takes place in Ontinyent on 22 August with invited guest bands La Pegatina and La Habitación Roja.

Requena hosts the second semi-final on 25 August with special guest bands La Raíz and Desacato.

Antonio Orozco performs in Moncada on 7 September and the indie groups Sidecars and Varry Brava perform in Manises on 8 September.

The final takes place on 22 September 22 in La Pobla de Vallbona with the rock groups Mago de Öz and Siniestro total as special guests.

For the “Sona la Dipu 2018” award ceremony in Gandia on 28 September, the special guests are the band Zoo and Rayden the rapper.
