From 11 to 13 January, visit this modernist fair in honour of San Antonio (called ‘Porrat i Calderes’) in Raval district of the town.

The origin of the tradition of tasting these rice broths goes back at least to the seventeenth century and is thought to have been a way of the agricultural society to venerate the saints so as to have a good harvest and fertile farm animals.

The most characteristic element of this festival is the ‘Calderes de Sant Antoni’. Formerly this was celebrated at the coldest time of the year to feed the local poor. Then rice broth was cooked in large pots. Some years ago this tradition was recovered and is now a feast for the senses: enjoy the sights and delicious smells while the food cooks and then eat a good plate of hot rice in one of the most charming corners of Oliva.

There will also be an open-air market with typical products, Valencian popular music, figurants dressed in period costumes, a craft market, antiques, ceramics and goldsmithery, a historical bicycle exhibition and children’s workshops.
