Visit this beautiful castle from Wednesday to Sunday.

This fortress, originally Islamic, was built in the 11th century, discover its history and that of the small town of Castalla that surrounds it.

Thanks to restoration work done between 2003 and 2006, and 2020, the castle is in beautiful conditions in a very good state of conservation making it an important cultural asset.

The castle has three main parts:

• The Palau or residence of the feudal lord, with towers and rooms organized around a central courtyard.
• The Pati d’Armes, a large open space that houses a series of storage structures from different historical moments.
• The Torre Grosa, a circular tower that was used for defensive purpose.

A maximum of 10 visitors can start the tour at Centro de Visitantes del Calvari.

From 17 to 19 May the town of Castalla in Alicante celebrates the XXVII edition of this traditional event.

Over 200 exhibitors will have their stands in the town centre and historic centre of Castalla, and there will be a wide range of leisure, trade, culture, gastronomy and tourism to please everyone.

Exhibitions, children’s and youth activities, music, dances, ‘correfocs’ (firecracker running) and many other activities complete this weekend’s festivities.

From Friday 28 September to Sunday 30 September Castalla’s Plaza Mayor will be sizzling with hot iron works.

This year the event takes on an international hue with over 50 smith artists from countries such as the Czech Republic, France, Russia, Switzerland, Ukraine, and, of course, Spain.

Together with 20 students from the sculptor Alejandro Cremades’ school ‘Hierro y Fuego’ these smith artists will work their anvils, hammers and furnaces, installed around the plaza, to make a huge collective sculpture for all to see whilst enjoying the visual force of this ancestral art, a fundamental pillar of our history.

Castalla’s ‘Casa del Fester’, next to the plaza, will hold an exhibition of the artisans works for the public not only to admire but also to purchase if they wish.

This event starts Friday 28 September at 15.30 and ends Sunday 30 at 14.00.
