Discover the Santa Barbara Castle, one of Alicante’s many hidden treasures.

The fortress, one of the city’s emblems, is at the top of Mount Benacantil with views over the whole of Alicante’s bay. It is considered one of Spain’s greatest medieval fortresses, dating back to the end of the 9th century. Visits are organised in a one-way route.

It can take up to two hours to cover the monumental complex and exterior spaces known as the Revellín del Bon Repós and the Baluarte de Santa Ana.

This is the fifth edition of these beautiful walking routes perfect for enjoying nature and getting to know the environment of Ibi.

The routes are free of charge and, once again, participants can set themselves the challenge of completing them all, thus completing the card that will be given to each attendee and which they must carry on each route to certify their attendance.

All the routes will start from the Biodiversity Museum on the Saturdays indicated at 9:00.

The routes proposed for this year 2022 are as follows:

Visit this archaeological site, declared a Site of Cultural Interest, located in the Benicadell mountain range (Beniarrés).

The cave contains an archaeological site of enormous importance for the knowledge and investigation of the Neolithic in the Mediterranean.

The cave was an ideal place for human habitation. Evidence has been found of food and household items from this period.

Access to the site has been improved, including a footbridge, and it is now open to the public with guided tours including a walk through scenes how how the cavemen lived.

The visits, which will take place at weekends by prior reservation, start at the Interpretation Centre of the municipality and transport near the side and then a short one kilometre hike up a slight slope to reach the cave.

Walk along this vertiginous 212-metre-long section, which is only suitable for the bravest. It is located 40 metres above sea level in the rocky strait of the Relleu reservoir.

The hanging footbridge marks the end of the 4.8-kilometre-long Relleu Reservoir route. This itinerary brings us closer to one of the best-kept treasures of Relleu: the seventeenth century dam of the reservoir. This spectacular construction is located in a natural area of great beauty and environmental value

Part of the itinerary follows an an old bridle path that was rescued from oblivion. Along the way, we will find a lime kiln, old irrigation ponds, weirs and irrigation canals.

Visit Alicante from 18 November and enjoy a first-class decorative night-time illumination with more than two million LED lights.

The switching on of the Christmas lights in the streets of the city centre has been brought forward this year as a tourist attraction and a measure to support local commerce.

This year, in addition to 870 bows and garlands, giant motifs and decorations have been added, such as a walkable gift box in Plaza del Mar, a ball in Plaza Seneca and the conical Christmas tree, 18 metres high, located this year at the beginning of the Esplanade.

Learn about the great environmental and cultural heritage of the Torrevieja’s Natural Park of La Mata Lagoons with an ecotourism route.

There are four different routes on offer where you can enjoy a fun day out and learn many interesting facts about one of one of the most important wetlands of the Costa Blanca.

Visits will take place from the park’s visitor centre. Tours will take between 3:30 and 4 hours. It is recommended to bring comfortable clothing, mountain or sports shoes, food and water, and it is advisable to bring a flashlight on night walks and a cap, binoculars and camera on day walks.

The routes are apt for all public and will comply with the currently recommended health and safety measures.

The visits intended to introduce visitors to the historical and social context that surrounded the construction and use of air raid shelters in Alicante.

The city of Alicante suffered during Spanish Civil War (1936 – 1939) until 83 bombings in spite of being a city of rearguard.

Through a guided tour you will learn how the city is organized in this terrible circumstance and especially what was the operation of an air raid shelter.

The itinerary begins in the Sala de Máquinas with a guided visit to the exhibition «Alicante ha caído, aquí termina la guerra» and includes the entrance to the Séneca Air Rail Shelter and the Balmis Air Raid Shelter. Their architectural uniqueness and the humanitarian function for which they were designed render these air raid shelters a tangible testimony to pain’s recent history.

Its philosophy is conscious consumption, that is, the reuse of clothes and utensils that are no longer needed to give them a second life. Anyone interested can come to sell, buy or exchange anything they no longer use.

You will also find recycling workshops for children, handicrafts sale and local products while enjoying live music.
