Guardamar del Segura ‘Moors and Christians’ festivities
Declared to be of regional tourist interest, the ‘Moros y Cristianos’ festivities are Guardamar del Segura’s most popular one. They place from 19 to 28 July.
The ‘pregón’ or proclamation starts off the festivities. This followed by a theatrical representation of the ‘leyenda de l’encantá’ (a legend on which the festivities are based). This includes a light, water and fire show around the town’s Dama de Guardamar (lady of Guardamar); an Iberian sculpture from the 4th century BC.
The first days are a sequence of parades, music and ‘correfocs’ (literally run with fireworks!). These are followed by other Moor and Christian programmed events and a medieval market.
