On 5 February Catral celebrates its most popular festivity; the traditional ‘Romería de Santa Águeda’ (Pilgrimage of Saint Agueda)
Year after year the event, declared Festival of Alicante Province Tourist Interest, gathers hundreds of visitors.
The pilgrimage starts at the Church of Santos Juanes around 12:00 ending at the Santa Águeda chapel.
This lively pilgrimage gives way to colour, as the streets fill up wit regional dances and traditional costumes, and to devotion with traditional canticles
Typically on this day people buy sweet products such as the ‘bolicas de Santa Águeda’, ‘turrones’ or all sorts of sweets. These are sold by weight and given to loved ones.
