Get closer to art and discover its beauty with this photographic exhibition that will be open to the public until 30 June at the Centre d’Art IVAM CADA in Alcoy.

The exhibition brings together 53 works from the Fundación Mediterráneo Contemporary Art Collection.

Through the photographic work of several highly relevant artists, a reflection on ourselves and our environment is proposed that allows the attendee to approach contemporary art in a more natural way.

These ‘Fiestas de Moros y Cristianos’, declared of International Tourist Interest, are celebrated from 22 to 24 April in the town of Alcoy.

A succession of events take place during three days, such as the Moorish and Christian entrance , the ‘Diana Vespertina’ (parade), the ‘Procesión General’ and the Moorish and Christian embassies.

And, parallel to the festivities, the fifth edition of “Tapa y Festa” will be held (in La Glorieta park) with multiple gastronomic stalls and the traditional “Sant Jordi Market” (along Els Alçamora street), which will have 84 varied stalls.

Make the most of your weekends and enjoy these hiking routes until the end of June in different municipalities of the l’Alcoià-Comtat area.

These organised hikes take visitors around the main sites of the participating towns and villages, whilst also offering an experience in the places visited through gastronomy, culture, crafts or outdoor activities.

Hikes are guided and will have a price of €6, and normally start at the town hall of each participating town. Visitors must register in advance.

The Alcoy route will last all day, on April 3, and will be related to cave art and modernism, with a visit to the Sarga site, the Camil Visedo Moltó Archaeological Museum and, in the afternoon, visits to the most emblematic places of the Route of Modernism.

On May 28, the program will reach Beniarrés and Cocentaina, with a morning visit to the Cova de l’Or Interpretation Center and its site and, in the afternoon, the Palau Comtal and the Anti-Aircraft Shelter.

On June 19 it will be the turn of Banyeres de Mariola and the route “The trade of l’espardenya and the paper industry”, with morning and afternoon activities to get to know the Museu de l’Espardenya, the Museu Valencià del Paper, the castle and, in the afternoon, walk the Route of the Mills.

‘Tirisiti’s Betlem’ is one of the most attractive and original Christmas offers. This unique puppet play has been performed in Alcoy for over a hundred years.

From December 23 to January 5, thousands of children and adults will laugh with the jokes, satires and occurrences of “Tirisiti”, a shameless and lazy innkeeper who narrates, in a typical alcoyana way, biblical scenes, local traditions and everyday moments, as well as some references to the latest news.

Although this pantomime like show is in a mixture of Valencian and Spanish, jokes are perfectly clear for everyone, especially kids who are encouraged to interact with Tirisiti and the rest of the characters during the show.

Performances take place in the local Teatro Principal.

With this special procession that dates back to 1885 (the oldest in Spain), children eagerly await the arrival of the Three Kings Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar.

On 5 January starting around 18:00 over a thousand participants parade through the city centre of Alcoy. Musicians, torchbearers and shepherds accompany Their Majesties, while hundreds of black painted pages (‘els negres’) fill the streets with ladders to reach household balconies delivering gifts to local children.

At the end of the cavalcade, neighbours and visitors alike gather in the Plaza de España to witness one of the most symbolic moments of the afternoon when the Three Wise Men bow before baby Jesus and deliver their traditional gifts (gold, incense and myrrh). This is act is followed by a spectacular firework display illuminating the square.

The parade is a huge finale to a whole series of activities that take place prior to the day:

• ‘El Bando’ ceremony proclaiming the arrival of the Royal Ambassador and his pages (4 January 18:30).
• ‘La Burreta’ parade following the proclamation. In this parade, which also includes traditional dances and songs, children can deposit their letters for the Three Kings in postboxes carried by black and white donkeys (4 January).
• ‘Three Kings’ camp’. Visit the camp up in the local mountain, see the tent where gifts are organised or visit the camels and other animals that accompany the royal entourage (5 January 9:00 to 13:00).

This is the Costa Blanca’s largest digital art exhibition. It will be open to the public until 1 March 2020.

Free of charge, the event is born with the mission of creating, promoting and boosting contemporary digital art.

‘The Wrong: Epicentre’ is held simultaneously worldwide in different virtual and physical spaces, bringing together more than 400 digital artworks by 132 international artists. In the Valencian Community these can be found distributed in more than 20 cultural institutions: IVAM Cada in Alcoy, Centre Matilde Salvador in Aldaia, Centro Cultural Las Cigarreras in Alicante, Almenara, Benetússer, MUCBE in Benicarló, Espacio Cultural Menador in Castellón, Chelva, Casa de Cultura in El Campello, MACE in Elche, Les Coves de Vinromà, Macastre, Fundación Cultural Miguel Hernández in Orihuela, Potries, Archivo Municipal in San Juan de Alicante, Sant Mateu, Centre del Carme in Valencia, Vallada, MACBAC in Vilafamés, Vilafranca and Villanueva de Castellón.

Visitors may view this digital artwork using smartphones or tablets with wifi connections provided. In some places video screens have also been installed.
